Voter Guide

for 2008 State and Federal Elections

The AAUW-Brevard 2008 Non-Partisan Voter Guide, most recently updated on April 24, 2008, is available in order to assist voters in their decisions in the Primary Elections. The guide will be revised as additional candidates provide submissions, and then again after the Primaries, at which point it will present only the candidates for the General Election.

The Voter Guide covers the races and issues listed below. Click on the office to view the candidates for that race and their voter guide responses.
US Senate
Candidates' statement of qualifications and responses to questions developed by our Committee re: the Iraq war, health care, social security, environment, immigration, election/campaign finance reform.
NC Governor Statement of duties, candidates' statement of salient qualifications, and response to one general question about their approach to addressing some of the challenges facing our state.
NC Council of State All other offices of Council of State--Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, Superintendent for Public Instruction, and Commissioners of Agriculture, Insurance, and Labor--will have a description of the office and candidates' listing of salient qualifications.
US House District 11 Candidates' statement of qualifications and responses to questions developed by our Committee re: the Iraq war, health care, social security, environment, immigration, election/campaign finance reform.
NC Senate District 50
Candidates' statement of qualifications and responses to questions in areas of health, mental health, environment, immigration, election/campaign finance reform.
NC House District 113

This Non-partisan Voter Guide has been prepared by the Brevard Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

The Brevard Branch of AAUW gratefully acknowledges the Transylvania Times for its support of this Voter Guide Project. 

The AAUW is a national organization that promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.  Therefore, the questions we asked are those which affect these concerns.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR UPCOMING ELECTIONS 

ONE STOP VOTING (IN PERSON) FOR PRIMARY

Vote at your convenience (no prior arrangements needed!) 
        Community Services Building
        Gaston and Morgan Streets
        Conference Room

Stop by anytime during the following hours:     

  8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
  April 17– May 2, or 8:30 am–1 pm, Sat, May 3

NO EXCUSE (MAILED BALLOT) FOR PRIMARY

Call 884-3114 to receive an official request form, OR

Send a written request for an absentee ballot to:
         Transylvania Board of Elections
          P O Box 868
          Brevard, NC  28712

Include the following information in your request:
           Name of voter (printed)
           Signature of voter
           Residential address
           Address to which you want ballot mailed
           Date of birth
           Telephone number (or contact number)

Deadlines:  Request for mailed ballot must be in by Tues, April 29 at 5 pm. Completed ballots must be returned by Monday, May 3 at 5 pm.

PRIMARY ELECTION DAY: MAY 6, 2008

All Precincts Open 7:30 am - 7:00 pm

2nd Primary Election (if needed): June 3, 2008

GENERAL ELECTION DAY: NOV. 4, 2008

Voter Registration closes for this election: Oct 10, 2008
