QUALIFICATIONS

1.      What are your strongest qualifications for this position?

Cowell (D) Weisel (D) Young (D)

Janet Cowell combines a record of public service in the State Senate and on the Raleigh City Council with a 20 year business career which started as a stock analyst for Lehman Brothers. After earning an MBA from the Wharton School of Business she worked for venture capital firms and Fortune 500 companies. Cowell has the financial skills and knowledge of state government to get the job done.

I have spent over thirty years in the financial and legal services helping people and businesses to succeed.  During my financial career I managed more than $1.25 billion in assets for such national companies as Kemper and Wells Fargo.  I have also served on the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System, the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System and the State Banking Commission.

As a businessman, local elected official, and education leader, David Young has a solid record of experience.  He understands the responsibilities of the State Treasurer to manage the state's finances; maintain our bond rating; honor our commitment to current and retired state employees; and use the resources of the state to create opportunities in education, health care, and economic development.
