QUALIFICATIONS

1.      What are your strongest qualifications for this position?

Aikens (D) Wood (D) Merritt (R)
15 years on the Legislative Fiscal staff analyzing agency expenditures and evaluating programs to determine if funds were being spent wisely and appropriately plus executive level experience at DOTand DOC, combined with 2 years of military service (2001-04) culminating in wartime experience commanding troops in the Iraqi Theater of Operation.  Masters degrees (UNC-CH and U.S. ArmyWar College)

I am a CPA, and have been for 20 years.  My experience  as a CPA for the last 15 years has been in government auditing and accounting.

I have been with the Office of the State Auditor  for the last 10 years so when I go into the Office I won't have to spend the first 3 years of my term trying to understand what the audit does.

I am a leader. You need to get "buy in" from staff to be successful.
A proven track record of getting the job done.  In just three short years on the job our team has reduced a backlog of investigative audits -- some more than three years old -- by 76%, begun holding state-funded non-profits accountable, launched a new initiative to train personnel from those non-profits, and much more.  Please visit www.auditormerritt.com for more details.
