2007-2008 SCHEDULE:



Local Monthly Meetings:

The Brevard AAUW Branch meets monthly from September through May. Each meeting has a program topic and provides an opportunity to socialize before/after the meeting. The December meeting is a holiday social gathering; the May meeting is the annual luncheon and installation of officers.  Oct2007 Meeting

 

    All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held in the upstairs auditorium at College Walk on the second Tuesday of each month, September-May.

    Drew Van Horn, President of Brevard College will speak on new developments and will address potential ways AAUW members can support the college.

    Dr. Debbie Klingender, a clinical psychologist in private practice in Brevard presents advice for maintaining good health and psychological well being in the face of challenges and limitations that are a natural part of aging.

    7 PM - "One of the FIrst Women in the U.S. Military "
    Betty Caccavale speak on her experiences.

    Un poco Espanol - Un poco Ingles
    This modest Spanish/English phrase booklet with 52 illustrations and a glossary is available for city and county officials, social service agencies, health care providers and local merchants.  Designed to improve communications between Spanish speaking and non -Spanish speaking individuals, the booklet is a joint project of the Brevard Branch of AAUW and the Transylvania Literacy Council.  A red decal that states in Spanish, "Welcome to Our Hispanic Clients.  If you need help, you may request it at the service desk," accompanies the booklet.  A free copy may be obtained by calling the Literacy Council, 862-3524, and leaving a message.


    Women Who Make A Difference Award
    The Brevard Branch of AAUW instituted the Women Who Make A Difference Award in 1996 to honor outstanding women who have generously given their time and talents in community service.    The award is presented at the Branch Annual Meeting in May each year and a donation is given to the Educational Foundation in her name.
    The honoree may have worked in any field:  arts, social services, education, government, etc.  She may or may not be a member of AAUW.
