Within the community, AAUW Brevard Branch participates in:
Annual Book Sale This is the branch's principal fundraising event from which proceeds go to local and national scholarships, and to local education projects of merit. Click here for more info about the Book Sale. In addition to other scholarships awarded annually to women of Transylvania County, the branch, in 2004, established an endowment at Blue Ridge Community College that will fund scholarships in perpetuity. It also provides a vehicle to honor and /or memorialize members of the Branch. The form and address are available at Endowment. Voter Education A voters' guide provides information to the public on local issues, state and national candidates and voter registration. Make a Difference Awards Annual awards are given to those who have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life for residents in the area. Rise and Shine Members work every seven weeks with underachieving students in an after school tutoring and enrichment program. Women in History Project Games, activities and lessons on famous women in history are presented
in elementary school classrooms in March to celebrate National Women's
History Month.
Science Camp Awards Scholarships are given to girls in Transylvania County with interests and talents in the sciences. Senior Mentor Project Members act as resources and evaluators for local high school seniors'
research projects.
Schenck Women Mentoring Project Members mentor young adult women who are working towards a trade at the Schenck Job Corp. New Century Scholars An annual contribution is made to this local fund which is designed to guarantee at-risk middle school students financial support for college tuition after graduation. Local Monthly Meetings The Brevard AAUW Branch meets monthly from September through May. Each meeting has a program topic and provides an opportunity to socialize before/after the meeting. The December meeting is a holiday social gathering; the May meeting is the annual luncheon, election of officers and the "Women Who Make a Difference" Awards.
